Bones

In my culture when an individual, or the community as a whole, is faced with a crisis in the form of illness, or if demons wreak havoc in the lives of the people, the individual/community turns to isangoma - the healer - who will in turn “throw bones” to divine the problem. It is bones in Sterkfontein that told us that life began here in Mzansi (South Africa). My bone sculptures seek to divine myths and mythologies. I divine the state of our nation with my them!
