The Spirit of Bandung!
Hhayi nina bakithi! Ndivumeleni Ndithethe!
We invoke the spirits of our land………
We are a chain of voices intercepted from whirlwinds
We move South-South carrying a torch of peace
In the night of howling wolves whose echoes
Reverberate from capital to capital
Washington to Bagdad
We are Africans
Dancing in the wind
Floating on rafts after tsunamis of repression
We walk the silent walk of the ancestors
Urged by memories of fire and redemption
We carry a clear vision in the retina
Of our eyes
A vision of our rebirth
As we forged New Partnerships
For Africa’s Development
Urged by robust winds of Moral Regeneration
We swear by every drop of water in the ocean
We are Africans reborn
To reclaim the memories of our forebears
As we chart journeys, new beginnings
In our land
Ndivumeleni Ndithethe! Permit me to Speak!
The long night of repression has receded
From African skies
New vultures hover the air yet
A bright dawn breaks
We straddle continents armed with a stubborn memory
That refuses to curl up and ignobly die
Seeds sowed in Bandung begin to flower
New voices rise to speak with the voice of Nkrumah and Nyerere
Sukarno and Nehru and myriad other voices
Ndivumeleni Ndithethe!
We who stood firm against the beasts that sought to compel our dreams to kneel at the altar of Rampant gods
That terrorised nations once more join hands
To form a chain of dreams to secure our lands
Yes! we have inherited the spirit of Bandung from Sukarno to Soekarnoputri
Pancasina, Ahimsa-Ubuntu
Breathe with the same breath as Pandit Nehru
I swear by every peasant soul
Every family
Every worker and student that dreams a new dream in the fertile womb
Of sleeping giants that begin to stir
Ndivumeleni Ndithethe!
We are Africans dancing to the rhythm
Of new beginnings in our land
Dance with us, dream with us new dreams
Under our Rainbow skies
As we blaze & chart a path of New Partnerships for our development
We travel South-South by way of trade winds
Matching god for god / dream for dream
Forge New Strategic Partnerships
To silence the hunger pains that devour our lands
At the vibrant moment of our rebirth
Ndivumeleni Ndithethe!
Come walk with us this rugged mile
Through vistas of visions of peace and justice
Let us carry visions of common prosperity along Economy Avenue
Along Social Boulevards and
Along cultural Circles of our two continents!
